The climate on the island is one of the best in the world and the year round sunshine and mild temperatures make it ideal for all kinds of activites.
It's so mild that the average temperatures across the island hardly ever fall below 18 degrees centigrade and makes it a very comfortable climate to live in.
The infrastructure on the island is very good and provides all the amenities you would expect from a developed region. All the standard services are constantly being improved and upgraded so that the quality of life is at an optimum. With the main port located in Santa Cruz, the transport network can distrubute goods throughout the island very easily.
Some of the local dishes you might hear about which are typical to Tenerife are:
Papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes).
Ropa Vieja ("old clothes", ) contains beef, chicken or pork, or a combination of any of the three mixed with potatoes and garbanzo bean just one of many stews.
Baifo, the Guanche word for a young goat marinated in an elaborate mixture made with bay leaves, garlic, thyme, oregano and whatever else the cook chooses to add and is popular for Christmas.
Mojo, is a piquant sauce which may be orange, red, or green depending on its ingredients that is eaten with fish or meat or potatoes and is the most typical food of the Canaries.
Rancho Canario, is a soup that resembles the cocido Madrileño and contains chicken, pork, chick peas, thick noodles, potatoes, cabbage, and carrots. There are many variations but the vegetables are always present. Sometimes the dish is prepared as a creamed soup.

Variety of Beaches
Tenerife offers an excellent variety of beaches, from black volcanic, to golden Saharan sand. Wherever you decide to stay on the island, you'll find that there is always a beach nearby that has all the necessary facilites. The volcanic landscape makes it ideal for hiking and there are countless places to discover around the island. Mount Teide is the main attraction but there are numerous other places that exude the unique beauty of Tenerife.
